The History of Arghishalee Labradors

Based in a beautiful area of South West Wales on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, we are a small kennel with chocolate, yellow and black Labradors who live with us in the house, and are, first and foremost family pets.

I have always had a passion for dogs, spending my teenage years working in a boarding / breeding kennels, growing up with Corgi's and GSD's at home.  After a long gap because of personal circumstances, my first dog for nearly two decades was a chocolate labrador bitch, a compromise for my partner not keen on very large dogs.

Hally was bought as a pet with no intention ever to breed from, or show her; but times change, and her super gentle nature, wicked sense of fun and almost human attitude to life saw Arghishalee produce its first litter in July 2007. From this litter we kept Hope, who joined Clover in the ring in January 2008.  Hally surpassed herself with her first litter, and In October 2008, she gave us Arghishalee's second litter, from which we kept Bronte, a mischievous little chocolate girl with the face of an Angel.  In December 2008, we also brought in our generation Carpenny chocolate dog, Moz.

We now have a beautiful black girl, a 2nd generation Arghishalee from Hope's first litter.

I started showing in 2005, and the affix  "Arghishalee" was awarded to me by the Kennel Club late in 2005. I am a member of a number of local canine societies, the Labrador Retriever Club, the Labrador Club of Wales, and Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club and I am on the LRC Wales 'C' List for judging .

Health Tests

I am a KC Accredited Breeder but we use far more than the basic recommended health tests.

All our dogs undergo hip and elbow scoring prior to breeding, and are eye tested annually. We make full use of DNA tests for Optigen and CNM.  Four of our current dogs are PRA clear through testing / parentage.   All our dogs used for breeding are DNA tested CNM Clear.
